Nantong COSCO KHI Shipping Engineering Ltd., Co. (NACKS)is a joint venture shipbuilding enterprise between China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO) and KAWASAKI Heavy Industries Ltd. (KHI). The total investment amounts to 1.46 billion RMB while the registered capital is 4.5 billion RMB equally shared by COSCO and KHI.

There are two dry docks in NACKS. The first one is 300,000 DWT dry dock and the other is 500,000 DWT dry dock . Both docks are equipped with two 300-ton and two 500-ton Goliath dock cranes , two 150 tons and two 180 tons lifting cranes which are firstly designed, manufactured and installed by Chinese manufacturer. The layout of NACKS is reasonable with advanced facilities and equipment, most of which are imported from Japan such as large scale numeral-control cutting machine, automatic arc-welder etc. Computer system is widely used in design, manufacture and management.

NAKCS has passed ISO9001 (2000 version),ISO14001(1996 version),OHSAS18001 and ISO 27001 authentication of DNV. The quality control of the whole construction procedure is assured by the application of precision management and statistic technique. NACKS is the first domestic shipyard which has realizes the Zero-margin ship construction. Being capable of building various big and sophisticated vessels, NACKS’s annual capacity is above 2,000,000 tons.

Based on the production procedure and organization system adopted from KHI, NACKS forms its characteristic production and management style through technique-introduction → absorbing innovation. Now both production management and technology development have been localized.

Since the start of its operation in 1999, NACKS has successfully delivered 50 large vessels, including Bulk Carriers, 10000TEU Container Carriers,5400TEU Container Carriers, 315,000DWT VLCCs and 5000PCCs.NACKS can also construct 315,000DWT VLOC, 13000TEU Container Carrier, 205,000DWT Bulk Carrier and 6200 PCC etc.

At present, with the smooth proceeding of production and business activities, NACKS is becoming energic and flourishing as a modern shipbuilding enterprise: NACKS was honoured with the name of"The 500 biggest foreign enterprises“The 500 biggest I/E Enterprises in China”, “The 200 Trade Enterprises” , etc. It is believed that in the near future NACKS will accomplish its great aim of “Being a shipbuilding base which is the first class in the world and most advanced in China” and contribute more to the development and progress of Chinese shipbuilding.
